Showering, dressing, having breakfast and coffee - these or similar morning rituals help us to get fit for the day. Our skin would like to be pampered with the same programme: Cleansing, refreshing, nourishing and protecting. After all, we do not go out in our pyjamas. On the contrary: We carefully choose our outfit, and we should do the same when it comes to facial care. A day cream should above all contain moisture and vitamins so that the complexion looks fresh and firm after application. Furthermore, it should protect the skin from harmful environmental influences so that it can perform its tasks undisturbed. The task of our skin, which consists of epidermis, dermis and subcutis, is to protect our body from light, water and harmful substances. Its sensory cells and nerves react to touch, pain and temperature stimuli, sort them and pass them on. In addition, the skin regulates heat exchange and the release of sweat and other substances to the outside.
Since day care products are often used as a make-up basis, they must be absorbed quickly, and must not be too rich. Otherwise the foundation could quickly smear and the rouge becomes blotchy. If the skin is rather oily, a matting effect is desirable.
Most day care products contain a sun protection factor. We are always exposed to UV rays outdoors, even when the sun is not shining. Obviously, sunlight is also important for the skin, since only with its help can the skin product vitamin D. However, extensive and intense UV radiation weakens the skin barrier. This can lead to a loss of fats and moisture. In addition, sunbathing leads to a lasting reduction in the skin’s elasticity, which in turn leads to the premature formation of wrinkles.
